What is the plural of octopus?

I actually looked this up because I always thought it was octopi. I found out I was wrong. The correct plural is octopodes. Huh. Learn something new every day.
I made this group of octopodes for Cooper's birthday at school. Not only is today his 9th birthday, it's also beach day at school, so I made some beachy cupcakes for him to take to class. These were so simple to make and I think they turned out pretty cute.

According to Merriam Webster "octopus" is derived from the Latin Octopod but the current plural for Octopus is really Octopi or even octopuses is acceptable. So you were right the 1st go round!
